【영 어 25문】 What do you think a person can do in forty-three seconds? For fifty-six-year-old Morris Katz, that was enough time to create an oil painting that won him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records Museum in New York City. For another entry in Guinness, Katz produced 103 paintings in twelve straight hours of painting. It has been calculated that Katz paints at the rate of 2.65 square feet a minute! The only slow thing about a Katz painting is how long it takes to dry. In addition to being the world's fastest painter, Katz is also the most highly productive. In 1985, producing 147,800 paintings, he broke another world record. He was in a canyon, maybe four miles long and a half-mile wide, with the river flowing through at full torrent below. It entered at the base of vertical rock walls at one end and disappeared through a similar cut at the other. While surveying the scene, Simon bathed his ankle in the cold water of a stream. Then he tore a strip off his green T-shirt and bandaged his bleeding hand. For the next three days and nights Simon stayed where he had fallen, calculating his chances for rescue and shouting for help. But his voice would not carry over the thunder of the river on the rocks. James : How's your business? Charlie : Not so good. Sometimes I think starting my own travel agency was a big mistake. James : Oh, come on. It'll get better. You've only been operating for five months. Charlie : True, but it just doesn't seem to be improving. James : Maybe you need to advertise more. Charlie : I'm already spending too much money on advertising and I don't see any results. James : Just be patient. ________________________________ 【문 1】다음 글의 제목으로 가장 알맞은 것은? ① The Trick of Speed Painting ② A Painter's Fortune ③ The Role of Guinness Book ④ The Fastest Painter in the World 【문 2】다음 글의 상황에서 느낄 수 있는 분위기로 가장 적절한 것은? ① optimistic ② inquisitive ③ pessimistic ④ anticipating 【문 3】다음 대화의 빈 칸에 들어갈 말로 가장 알맞은 것은? ① A stitch in time saves nine. ② Even Homer sometimes nod. ③ Rome wasn't built in a day. ④ One swallow doesn't make a summer. 【문 4】다음 글의 빈 칸에 들어갈 말로 가장 적절한 것은? Throwing criminals in jail is an ancient and widespread method of punishment; but is it a wise one? It does seem reasonable to keep wrongdoers in a place where they find fewer opportunities to hurt innocent people, and where they might discover that crime doesn't pay. The system has long been considered fair and sound by those who want to see the guilty punished and society protected. Yet the value of this form of justice is now being questioned by the very men who have to apply it; the judges. The reason, they say, is _________________________. ① imprisonment is the best way to control offenders ② justice is the legal system to treat people who break the law ③ the judges have the power to deal with the prisoners ④ prison doesn't do anyone any good 【문 5】다음 글의 요지로 가장 알맞은 것을 고르시오. You can define culture as a series of habits, patterns for behavior, and patterns for interpreting behavior, that you learn by communicating with other people. So far, so good. Thanks to new technology, anyone who has a computer can access to the Internet, and have an e-mail address. But unfortunately you have probably seen an increase in the amount of "junk mail" which shows up in your e-mail box. There seems to be no way to avoid junk e-mail. What is worse, the anonymous users in cyberspace have gained chances to send impudent messages without having to take responsibility for their words. In my opinion, there is a need to develop some courteous codes especially for this new communication through Internet. But I will do none of these things, though I am in peril of losing my life. I too have children, but nevertheless I shall not bring any of them into court to beg the judge to set me free. This is not because I am stubborn, but because it's disgraceful for respected people to act in such a manner. Apart from the question of reputation, I think it is not right to implore the judge or to seek innocence by begging; we ought rather to inform the judge and convince him. For the judge is not here to grant favors in matters of justice, but to give judgment; and his oath binds him not to grant favors according to his pleasure, but to judge according to the laws." ① 법정에서의 인간의 존엄성 ② 재판관의 자질과 호감도 ③ 법에 따른 엄정한 재판 ④ 재판을 받을 때 자식의 역할 【문13】다음 대화의 마지막 부분에 가장 어울리는 말은? Orlando, which was a quiet farming town a little more than thirty years ago, has more people passing through it today than any other place in the state of Florida. The reason, of course, is Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World and a host of other theme attractions. These theme parks pull more than twenty-five million people a year to what was until fairly recently an empty area of land. Few of these people visit the actual city of Orlando. Instead, they prefer to stay in one of the motels and hotels fifteen miles to the south along Highway 19. Despite enormous expansion over the last decade, the city itself remains free of the commercialism. However, the city itself has not been able to escape the traffic congestion and other problems associated with the visit of so many millions of tourists as well as the thousands of people who work in the tourist industry. However, for most of their long history, these were not playthings, but deadly serious objects. In some parts of the world, these were and still are used at very important times in people's lives such as when they are born, when they become an adult, and when they die. The ice-cream man was halfway up the beach and heading toward the boardwalk. I ran after him, dodging people, kicking sand. Finally I reached him. "How much, mister?" I asked. "Ten cents today." "Ten cents! It's only a nickel on the block." "Well there ain't no blocks here, kiddo. This is the beach, and why doncha just look around." My mother would never spend a dime on one ice cream. The diet of many British people is quite different to that of their parents and has often changed in their own lifetime. Fruit like bananas and oranges were very difficult to find, and each person could have only fifty grams of butter and sugar each week. Today we have many more fruits and other foods to choose from and new ways to cook them, like microwave ovens. But we have less time for shopping and cooking. People used to walk to their nearest shops almost every day. They went to the baker's for bread, the butcher's for meat, the greengrocer's for fruit and vegetables and so on. Now they drive to supermarkets where they can buy everything under one roof. The very big supermarkets sell over 20,000 different products, including food from Africa, Asia and the Americas. ① Changes in diet and food shopping ② Food industry development ③ New cooking Methods ④ New trend of British people 【문25】다음 글에서 문맥상 밑줄 친 단어들의 의미를 가장 잘 연 결한 것은?
